Sonya Mattern, 64, passed away July 13, 2026, while doing what she loved, vacationing with her family in North Carolina.

Sonya was born February 14, 1962, in East Liverpool, OH.

She was a mother, daughter and a friend to many. Sonya was a homemaker that always seemed to find time to reach out and check on others. She was an avid music lover who adores the music of Elvis, Chris Tomlin and most of all Gary Allan. Sonya was a god-fearing woman that loved the Lord. She was a member of Rogers Assembly of God, and she will be deeply missed by all of us.

Sonya is survived by four children, Scott Bender, Danielle (Joe) Beil, Angel Felger and Aniko Milohan; mother, Leita Johnson; father, James (Cheryl) Mattern; three brothers, James (Sandy) Mattern, Jeff Mattern and Eric (Larae) Mattern; three sisters, Renae (David) Sherman, Laurie (Larry) Gilbert and Lisa (Darren) Burke as well as four grandchildren, Michael, Hunter, Hayden and Hudson and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lester Johnson.

The family will receive friends Thursday prior to services from 3:00-4:00 PM at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM. A private burial will take place at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford at a later date.
