Negley-

Ruth E. Duwe, 89, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away January 18, 2021 at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown.

Ruth was born October 26, 1931 in East Palestine, daughter of the late Nelson G. and Verna Knight Gorby.

She has resided the past three months with her son, George Mackall, and previously at Lake Tomahawk, East Palestine and Negley. Ruth was a member of the East Palestine Lutheran Church. She previously worked at the Negley Elementary School as a Teacher's Aide and had managed local restaurants including the former Mackall Shafer House in East Palestine as well as Appleseed Restaurant in Lisbon. Ruth also owned and operated Ruthie's Attic prior to her retirement. When not working, she enjoyed needlepoint, and received many awards including Best of Show at the Columbiana County Fair and also enjoyed quilting.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 10 years, Herbert Duwe; three sons, John (Kathleen) Mackall of Columbiana, George (Marcella) Mackall of Negley, Tommy (Janet) Mackall of Youngstown; daughters, Barbara (Terry) Cantwell of East Palestine, Joanne (Donald) Sheppard of Lisbon, Susan (Patrick) Glover of Clinton Twp., MI; stepson, Gregory Duwe of East Palestine; step daughter, Sharlene (Patrick) Gallagher of Cranberry Twp., PA; brother, Stephen Gorby; 27 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by a son, Harry Mackall; brother, Richard Gorby and three sisters, Vivian Arthurs, Polly Felger and Eileen Gorby.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday January 22, 2021 at the Columbiana Church of Christ 191 SR 14, Columbiana. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
