East Palestine-

Howard E. Sutherin, 96, passed away August 4, 2025, at home with family by his side.

Howard was born May 11, 1929, in East Palestine, son of the late Lloyd and Mabel (Huston) Sutherin.

He previously resided in Darlington and was a graduate of Darlington High School. Howard worked as a pipefitter and welder for Babcock and Wilcox for many years prior to his retirement. After retirement, he operated a starter and alternator shop at his home and also ran a sawmill out of his house. He also provided auto mechanics for friends and family as well. Howard was a 32-degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners for many years. He was a former member of Shady Grove Holiness Tabernacle.

Howard is survived by a son, Howard (Theresa) Sutherin, Jr. of Newnan, GA.; three daughters, Bonnie Buhecker of Darlington, Nancy (Rodger) Jones of East Palestine, Brenda (Sammy) Reed of Roanoke Rapids, NC; brother, Gene (Babe) Cope of Darlington; 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lois Sutherin in 2022, a grandson, James D. Little III and four brothers, Leroy, Glen and Wilbur Sutherin and Wilford Cope.

A funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 6:00-7:00 PM.

A private burial will be held Friday at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of the Valley for the care they showed to Howard.
