Negley-

Eugene Filippini, 96, a lifelong resident of Negley, passed away January 25, 2021 at the Hospice House in Poland, OH.

Gene was born July 9, 1924, son of the late Ambrose and Caroline Filippini.

He was a 1943 graduate of East Palestine High School, and a veteran of the US Army. Gene was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine, and although he attended Negley United Methodist Church, he was catholic by faith.

Gene worked at PL&W Railroad, Rupert Brothers Mining and Mike Mercure Mining in his earlier years but was employed with Ferris Coal Co which later became State Line Resources for over 50 years prior to his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynn Elliott Filippini; three sons, Joseph Filippini of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Brian Filippini of University Heights, OH and Daniel (Christy) Filippini of West Jefferson, OH and a dear nephew, Rudy Sacchet.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sacchet, two brothers, Frank Filippini and Cesare "Chiz" Filippini as well as his parents.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday January 28, 2020 at Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and ask that appropriate social distancing be observed. Interment will follow at East Carmel Cemetery.
