Eileen McCarthy, 90, of East Palestine, passed away 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Covington Community Campus where she had been a patient.

Eileen was born December 23, 1927 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late George and Grace (Huff) Zuch and had been a life long resident of East Palestine.  She was a member of the East Palestine High School graduating class of 1945.  She had been employed at one time as a cashier at the former A & P Grocery.  She also  worked as treasurer for the city of East Palestine, and was a chocolatier, selling candy from her home where she taught classes on candy making.

Eileen was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, Edmund McCarthy, whom she married in 1947; and her son, Michael McCarthy in 2014.

She is survived by her daughter, Toni (Tom) Povenski of East Palestine, and her sister-in-law, Margo Zuch, also of East Palestine; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy McCarthy. Eileen loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, Tom Povenski, Jr., Tim Povenski, Marnie Bistarkey, and Philip McCarthy; as well as her ten great grandchildren, who all survive her.

Friends will be received from  Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Mark McTrustry officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
