Christine Kochevar, 98, of North Market Street, East Palestine, and Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana, passed away on August 26.

Christine was born on August 8, 1919 in East Palestine, daughter of Paul and Catherine Macek Taucher, Slovenian immigrants from the early 20 ^th century. She was the last surviving member of a large family of brothers and sisters: Stanley, William and Joseph Taucher; and Catherine Ellingsworth, Mary Ulbrich, Frances Hull, Virginia Britton, Jennie Jurjavcic, Dorothy Thompson Gibson and Helen Gibson.

She went to school in East Palestine and moved to Detroit, Michigan in the late 1930s, where she married Frank Kochevar (1915 - 1989) and had two sons Paul Kochevar (1948 - 1991) and John Kochevar (1943 - ) of Boston, Massachusetts. During her long and energetic life she helped raise two young girls to adulthood and was friend and caregiver to a dozen elderly men and women in their final years.

Her grandson, Tom Kochevar, his wife, Ginny, and their two children, Noah and Lisa, live in Eugene, Oregon. Her granddaughter, Kelly Kochevar, lives in Richardson, Texas.

Christine attended more than 65 annual Taucher family reunions, and returned permanently to East Palestine, in 2002, to live again among kith and kin, for the remainder of her life. She requested there be no funeral or memorial ceremony. Remember her as she lived, laughing and telling stories.

East Palestine was her hometown, the beginning and end of the circle of her life.

She loved you all.
