East Palestine-

Charles H. Hutchens, 88, passed away August 13, 2026, at the Christian House in East Palestine.

Charles was born June 14, 1938, in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Charles and Alice (Stoops) Hutchens.

He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. Charles worked with Western Union as a civilian contractor during the Vietnam War. He also was employed with Alleghany Airlines, Pan AM and most recently US Air as a senior avionics engineer. He had many accomplishments throughout his career. He was most proud of working on the team that designed the first baggage handler. He also helped to design the pitot tubes, the vertical clearance radar and many different radar systems in the cockpit that still assist the pilots of today. Charles retired in 2001 after many years of service.

Charles is survived by his wife of 41 years, Eleanor (Kubler); a son, Shannon (Vickie) Hull of East Palestine; two daughters, Shelly (Brady) Dulaney of Follansbee, WV and Chris (Robbie) Glusic of New Waterford; a sister, Donna Holmes of Davenport, FL as well as four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Following Charles' wishes, no services will be observed. A private burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Palestine.
