East Palestine-

Bob Davis (Robert C.) was a young 101 when he passed to eternal life on April 24, 2021.  He was the 4 ^th child of Clyde J and Virginia Everett Davis.   As described in a postcard, written by his father on Oct 27, 1919 to Bob's grandparents, "he arrived just before 11pm on Oct 26, a big 10 lb, red haired, very much alive boy".

Bob lived almost his entire life in East Palestine, Ohio.  He grew up in a family which eventually grew to 10 children during the depression years.  Because money was scarce, Bob started working odd jobs at the age of 6, one of which was "peddling" the Pictorial Review along with his older brother Bill.   Bob's description of his early life can be viewed in a series of 10 interviews on You Tube under "Interviews with (Bob) Robert C Davis".  These interviews by Shawn Byers, took place 6 years ago when he was 95 years young.

Bob graduated from EPHS in 1940 and then married the love of his life, Nancy Pennell Davis on April 26, 1941 at her parents' home in Darlington, Pa.  Nancy passed away on Feb 2, 2005.  Bob dearly missed his "Saturday night dates" with Nancy after her passing.

In 1942 Bob enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1944.  Following his military service, he became a partner with Lawrence Hart in Hart Motors, E. Palestine.  Bob then went on to work as a travelling salesman for Magna American and travelled the continental US and all of Canada.  During the summers, his family travelled with him on his work trips.  On weekends, he enjoyed taking the neighborhood kids on hayrides or trips to Idora Park.  In 1968, after his father's death, Bob took over his insurance business and actively worked until the age of 93.

Bob loved the game of golf and played until 3 years ago.  Along with his wife Nancy, Bob created, owned and operated Pine View Par 3 golf course in E. Palestine.  Bob loved kids and had golf leagues every summer for boys and girls.  He is responsible for many EP youth from the 60's and 70's to learn the game of golf.  He truly enjoyed his yearly golf trips with the guys to Myrtle Beach.

Bob also loved gardening and mowing on his John Deere.  When is daughters told him at age 99 it was time to give up his car, he would secretly drive his John Deere to the morning meeting at the restaurant with the guys.  In the later years of his life, he was terribly bored in the winter, so he learned to bake pumpkin pies and chocolate chip cookies.  They were probably the best cookies ever baked!

For his entire life, Bob was an active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in E. Palestine and a 75 year member of the men's Sunday school Class # 1.

His greatest love was his family.  Bob leaves two daughters, Diane Shoudt of North Lima, Ohio and Marge Slavik and her husband Bill of E. Palestine.  He had one granddaughter, April Rummel and her husband Danny of E. Palestine, and 2 great-grandsons, Casey Snyder and his wife Andrea of Boardman and Caden Rummel of E. Palestine.  There are 4 great, great grandsons, Landon, Jackson, Jace, and Brett.  Bob was the last survivor of his siblings, Bill, Don, Paul, Jack, Cork, Cliff, and George Davis, and sisters, Ruth Haggerty and Jane Hill.  He leaves many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to him, and many, many friends, young and old.  He also leaves his friend of 70 years, Pete Rukenbrod.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine, as well as 1 hour prior to the service, which will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at his church.  Please adhere to covid protocol by wearing a mask.
