Venancio "Benny" Gonzalez, 90, a longtime resident of New Waterford, passed away January 29, 2021 at his home, with family by his side.

Benny was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, April 1, 1930, son of the late Ramon Gonzalez and Euracia Colon Gonzalez. He was one of sixteen children.

Benny was a longtime employee of Werners Service Station, and later was employed as a Custodian for 20 years for Crestview Schools prior to his retirement. He was a Scout Master for New Waterford Troop 70 for 30 years. He, along with his scouts, took high adventure trips within the US, hiking and camping. He canoed in Canada and hiked the Appalachian Trail and enjoyed hiking at Beaver Creek and also loved motorcycles.

Benny is survived by a son, Benjamin (Theresa) Gonzalez of Bridgeport, WV; daughter, Shannon (Robert) Marra of Summitville, OH; five grandchildren, Michaela Sexton, Casey Gonzalez, Emily Walker, Robbie Marra and Nicholas Marra; two great grandchildren, Carter, and Riley Sexton; and a special nephew, Darren Taylor, who was thought of as a son.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Patsy Gonzalez in 2018 and a granddaughter, Abby Walker in 2013.

Following Benny's wishes, no public service will be observed.
